Harriet graduated from Jonesport High School in 1963. She graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, with a B.S. in Home Economics. She met her husband, Chuck Vaughan, while a student at UMO and they married in 1966. They have two sons, Andy, and Ben.
Harriet lives in Coopers Mills, Maine with her husband, Chuck Vaughan, in a house built in the 1860’s which they are working on to restore and make more energy-efficient. Everything Harriet teaches or writes about, she is putting into practice in her own life. She has a passion for helping people plan ahead when they are in their senior years. She is a Thought Leader who gets people thinking about what it means to the next generation to be faced with the contents of a house that nobody knows what to do with. She cares deeply about family relationships and sees them as the true legacy that a person leaves behind.
She can be found on the web at the legacy-years.com and on Facebook. Harriet offers, locally, organizing services for senior citizens and their families. She serves on the Local Advisory Council for the Coastal Center of Spectrum Generations. She is currently president of the board of directors of the Sheepscot Valley Regional Health Center and vice president of the Whitefield Historical Society.
